Zero-X technical drawing reduction
This drawing reduction was used in the production of Thunderbirds Are Go, the big screen adaptation of the popular Supermarionation television series created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson.
With a budget of £250,000 this big screen adaptation was set to be bigger and better than anything AP Films had ever produced, puppets were revamped, the Thunderbird filming miniatures rebuilt with greater attention to detail and the Zero-X was born, designed by now legendary special effects expert Derek Meddings. Mastermodels of Slough who had previously built a number of principal filming miniatures for Anderson productions were approached to construct the Zero-X spacecraft, built in two scales with the larger measuring seven feet in length, fifty pounds in weight and at a cost of £2,500.
This is a production made reduction of the side elevation technical drawing originally accomplished in pencil. Such drawing reductions were used during the production of the original filming miniatures at Mastermodels which were built by Laurie Barr. The second to last image is a period photograph taken in the Master Models workshop and clearly shows similar reductions pinned to the wall behind the small scale Zero-X filming miniature.
The reduction displays signs of use as you would expect with some corner damage having been pinned to the wall, it measures 20" in length.
An incredibly rare offering which depicts the lead craft used in this classic 1966 movie.
