Description

An original Triffid clacker used in the production of the 1981 BBC Television adaptation of The Day of the Triffids.

For the series eight full scale Triffid props were constructed from a design by visual effects designer Steve Drewett, each plant was built by the BBC Visual Effects Department around a go-kart seat on which an operator would sit to manoeuvre the Triffid, concealing the seat was a large root section which included three clackers to the top used for communication. This original screen used clacker is constructed from foam latex and given that the only surviving full scale Triffid plant which remains in The Prop Gallery collection lacks the original clackers it is likely this represents the only surviving example.

The clacker measures approximately 9" long and remains in good vintage production used condition with loss of latex to the surface, it has hardened meaning it remains extremely stable.

An incredibly rare opportunity to obtain an original screen used artefact from this highly regarded adaptation of John Wyndham's classic novel.
