Townsend Harris (John Wayne) waistcoat
An original costume created for the production of The Barbarian and the Geisha, the 1958 picture starring John Wayne under the direction of John Huston.
This waistcoat was bespoke made for use by John Wayne as Townsend Harris by leading industry tailors Western Costume. Constructed from cotton the waistcoat features its original label to the interior which is type written '2460-1, JOHN WAYNE, CH.2', the latter standing for change two, with a further Western Costume ink stamp. Although created for the production the waistcoat is not believed to appear on screen.
The costume remains in good vintage condition with significant sweat stains from use during this or a subsequent production.
A rare example of original wardrobe created for one of the all time legends of Hollywood.
