Doctor Who

An original hat used in the production of the long running BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who.

This hat formed part of the signiture costume worn by Sylvester McCoy as The Doctor. For McCoy's debut season hats were obtained from Bates hatters of Jermyn Street, London while the hats used in Seasons 25 and 26 came from Lock & Co hatters, these were complimented by hat bands which were actually cut down pocket handkerchiefs sourced for the production by costume designer Ken Trew.

This hat is an original obtained by the BBC from Bates hatters and can be seen worn by Sylvester McCoy as The Doctor in the 1987 serial Dragonfire, both the hat and band can be conclusively screen matched throughout and this represents the only one worn by McCoy in this story. The leather band to the interior is stamped 'PANAMA STYLE' to one side with the other featuring the Jermyn Street address of Bates.

The hat remains in excellent screen used condition exhibiting minor wear, much of which is visible on camera, overall very fine. This represents arguably the finest screen used Sylvester McCoy hat in existence given its extremely rare first season pedigree coupled with a conclusive screen match to an entire serial. 

An exceptional example of Doctor's wardrobe from this classic science fiction series.
