Doctor Who

Terileptil mask - The Visitation

Sold

Description

An original creature mask used in the production of the long running BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who.

From the 1982 serial The Visitation starring Peter Davison as The Doctor this is an original Terileptil mask created by freelance effects company Imagineering who were responsible for various costumes for the series during this period, most notably the redesigned Cyberman first used in Earthshock. Each of the three Terileptil creature costumes were unique and this blue faced example can clearly be seen on screen during the climatic scenes of the serial as it is shot by Richard Mace (Michael Robbins) before Pudding Lane goes up in flames thus beginning The Great Fire of London.

The mask is constructed from latex and foam and features holes for the eyes and side gills with a reptilian neck frill extending towards the rear of the head. To the interior the mask features an elastic strap used to attach it to the performers head and Velcro to the rear neck frill which would join with the remainder of the costume. The mask stands approximately 12" high and measures 11" front to back and remains in good condition its age and use considered with some hardening to the extremities as you would expect, most notably the rear neck frill, the main face area is largely supple to the touch and in extremely stable condition.

A recognisable and highly displayable example of an original creature mask from this classic science fiction series.
