Terileptil head test pull - The Visitation
An original Terileptil head from the production of the long running BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who.
This Terileptil head was produced from the original mould during production of the 1982 serial The Visitation starring Peter Davison as The Doctor. The Terileptil heads and costumes were produced for the show by freelance company Imagineering who went on to produce other costumes for the show including the Plasmatons from Time-Flight but most notably the redesigned Cybermen for Earthshock.
This head was the initial test pull from the mould during the production process, it is made from the same orange foam used to create the Plasmaton costumes and which can also be found to the interior of original Earthshock Cybermen helmets. The head is finished in a base coat of paint and would have also been utilised by Imagineering as a paint test before painting the heads for screen use, of which only three were made. This head can be seen in a period shot taken at Imagineering which shows Richard Gregory with a Cyberman helmet behind his right shoulder. This is not a later pull but a period pull from the production mould which went on to create the screen used heads.
The Terileptil remains in remarkable condition with only minor paint loss and some very minor hardening to the extremities but remains very supple being such thick foam.
An impressive display piece and an affordable example of a monster head from the production of this cult television series.
