Description

An original prop from the production of Superman, the 1978 superhero classic starring Christopher Reeve in the title role.

This miniature was created by a member of by the talented visual effects team headed up by Derek Meddings as they experimented with miniatures in an effort to bring Superman to life. The miniature features a custom made metal armature with a large number of joints allowing it to be posed, interestingly the head is that of a Mego Starsky doll and the costume is taken from a vintage Mego doll, this is accompanied by a pair of doll legs which have been crudely modified with bolts as the visual effects team experimented with movement. Obtained from the estate of a visual effects artist who developed the flying miniatures used during filming.

The miniature measures approximately 8" and the legs 5", they remain in good vintage condition with expected wear, lacking chest emblem and boots to costume.

A unique and interesting artefact from this Academy Award winning picture which remains an influential favourite of the superhero genre.
