Seer helmet - Underworld
An original prop used in the production of the long running science fiction television series Doctor Who.
From the 1978 serial Underworld starring Tom Baker as The Doctor this is an original screen used Seer helmet, one of only two made by the BBC Visual Effects Department. Constructed from fibreglass with a bronze effect paint finish the helmet features large eyes with surrounding detail and a mouth area with the remains of foam padding to the interior. The eye pieces being replacement parts which are blue in colour as they would have been originally due to effects seen on screen which were achieved using colour separation overlay, a primitive version of chroma key compositing as we know it today. The two helmets differ notably making it simple to conclusively identify this as one of the two original screen used helmets and the other, to the best of our knowledge, is not known to exist today.
The helmet measures approximately 10" in diameter and stands a very impressive 15" high, it remains in excellent screen used vintage condition exhibiting some age related paint an surface wear as one would expect, overall fine.
This represents an extraordinarily rare, unique and highly displayable artefact of coveted fibreglass construction from the Tom Baker era of this cult science fiction series.
