Sandworm puppet
An original puppet from the production of Beetlejuice, the 1988 fantasy picture directed by Tim Burton.
This puppet was custom made by the production during the creation of the memorable sandworm sequence which was achieved using a combination of techniques to include the use of rod puppets and stop motion animation provided by Doug Beswick. The sandworm is constructed from sculpted furniture foam with a latex skin and is painted in distinctive black and white stripes with foam teeth to the outer head and the closed inner head protruding, this has been mounted of a yellow display base designed to mirror the landscape.
The piece stands an impressive 16" high and remains in generally good vintage condition lacking any rear fin and exhibiting some loss and cracking to the latex skin.
A highly displayable artefact from this well received Academy Award winning picture.
