Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) spacesuit epaulettes
An original pair of spacesuit epaulettes created during the production of Moon the acclaimed science fiction drama directed by Duncan Jones and starring Sam Rockwell.
Sam Bell's (Sam Rockwell) spacesuit was initially designed by production designer Tony Noble with the helmet and chest sections created by the miniature effects team of Bill Pearson at Shepperton Studios. These epaulettes initially formed part of the spacesuit design and are constructed in vacuum formed ABS plastic and were moulded over a master pattern sculpted by Chris Hayes, they feature foam padding to the interior and velcro fastenings where they were attached to the spacesuit and are marked as set 1 of only 2 ever produced with other markings to the interior to differentiate between the left and right.
Ultimately the spacesuit epaulettes did not form part of the costume used in the final cut of the film although they were worn by Sam Rockwell in the initial spacesuit fitting which took place at Shepperton Studios. The final eight images shown here show the completed spacesuit helmet, chest and backpack complete with these epaulettes in Pearson's workshop during the production and Rockwell wearing them with the rest of the screen used costume during the fitting at Shepperton.
The epaulettes measure approximately 7.5" x 5" x 3" at their widest points and remain in excellent production used condition throughout.
A rare example of an original spacesuit component from this already cult science fiction masterpiece.
