Rupert Pupkin (Robert De Niro) jacket
An original jacket used in the production of the 1983 picture The King of Comedy starring Robert De Niro and Jerry Lewis under the direction of Martin Scorsese.
This jacket was worn on screen by Hollywood legend Robert De Niro in his unforgettable portrayal of Rupert Pupkin, an aspiring comedian whose ambition far exceeds his talent. The jacket was obtained by the production for use in the scenes leading up to and including the memorable stand up performance by Pupkin at the end of the movie, the jacket features an intricate pattern and although is essentially an off the peg jacket some alterations to the cuffs were made by production. This Jacket represents the only one of its kind worn on screen by De Niro and can be screen matched to every scene in which he wears it.
The jacket features a 'Barney's New York' label to the interior lining and remains in near perfect original and screen used condition.
Although The King of Comedy was a major box office flop upon release it has since come to be regarded as one of the finest performances of Robert De Niro's distinguished career, a sentiment echoed by director Martin Scorsese who has stated it his favourite De Niro performance under his direction. This jacket served as the case study for our article on screen matching which can be found here and offers a detailed account of the screen matching including side by side comparisons.
An incredibly rare wardrobe artefact from this highly regarded picture worn by one of the finest actors of his generation.
