Police car licence plate
An original licence plate used in the production of the 1969 British classic The Italian Job starring Michael Caine.
Licence plates such as this were used on the police cars and motorcycles which escort the truck and give chase in the movie. Much of the driving was organised by legendary French stunt driver Remy Julienne with the classic sewer chase sequence filmed at a newly built sewer system near Coventry, England. This plate is known to have been on location during the production and is constructed from white painted metal with the 'POLIZIA' writing and the number '36140' stencil painted to created an authentic looking Italian plate of the period. Whilst the plates utilised on the motorcycles were bolted on the plates for the cars were stuck on and to the verso this exhibits the remnants of the dried out tape which was used to attach it to the vehicle during filming.
The licence plate measures approximately 11" x 8" and remains in good condition with paint chips from production use, some age related wear and light corrosion to the verso.
A highly displayable artefact and an incredibly rare example of an original prop from this highly regarded British classic.
