Leela (Louise Jameson) blow pipe - The Talons of Weng-Chiang
An original prop used in the production of the long running BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who.
From the 1977 serial The Talons of Weng-Chiang starring Tom Baker as The Doctor this is the original blow pipe used by Leela, the scantily clad and memorable companion portrayed by Louise Jameson, she can be seen using the blow pipe as she saves The Doctor from the Chinese assassin by killing him with a Janis thorn. The prop was built by BBC Visual Effects Department assistant George Reed and is constructed from a metal tube with a mouthpiece of foam, following its use in this serial the blowpipe was redressed by Reed with feathers at which time the mouthpiece was shortened, this was either for use in a subsequent Doctor Who serial of for another production which required a similar prop.
The blowpipe measures approximately 12.25" long and the accompanying Janis thorn 3.5", both remain in excellent production used condition, very fine.
An exceptionally rare and displayable example of a principal character artefact from this cult science fiction series.
