Large scale Kaldorian spaceship filming miniature
An original miniature used in the production of Space: 1999 the cult science fiction television series produced by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson.
This is the large scale Kaldorian spaceship filming miniature used in the Year One episode Earthbound which guest starred noted actor Christopher Lee as Zantor. The Kaldorian spaceship marks the first appearance in the series of an alien craft, it was designed by special effects director Brian Johnson and was built in two scales by Space Models, this being the larger scale hero miniature. Constructed from fibreglass with a blue paint finish and reflective markings which would illuminate under studio lighting the miniature features holes underneath for freon gas jets which were used to simulate thrust. The miniature also features two points where it could be rigged for filming, one in the top ball and one to the interior which is accessible from the side of the body.
The spaceship measures a very impressive 24" in diameter and stands approximately 21" tall with the main body of the craft having a circumference of over 60". The miniature remains in excellent screen used condition with the access panel and feet being faithful reproductions of the missing original parts.
A rare, significant and highly displayable example of an original filming miniature from this classic science fiction series which remains highly regarded for its visual effects.
