Doctor Who

An original prop used in the production of the long running BBC television series Doctor Who.

From the 1986 Trial of a Time Lord serial Mindwarp starring Colin Baker as The Doctor this is an original CD phaser as seen used by the principal cast throughout including The Doctor (Colin Baker), Peri (Nicola Bryant) and King Yrcanos (Brian Blessed). Built by BBC Visual Effects Department designer Paul McGuinness the prop is constructed largely from fibreglass with plastic parts and is a hero light up version with this function operated by a scrolling thumb switch. Peter Wragg's handwritten visual effects notes for this story dated 30/04/86 show that 12 phasers were planned to be made by his visual effects team, 6 hero light up versions and 6 non practical versions.

The phaser measures approximately 10" long and remains in good screen used condition with some wear from production use to include cracking and missing parts with the light function no longer in working order due to expired batteries.
