Doctor Who

An original costume used in the production of the long running BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who.

From the 1977 serial The Sun Makers starring Tom Baker as The Doctor this is an original guard tunic created by the BBC Wardrobe Department. Constructed from lightweight blue material the tunic features quilting with cross stitch detail to the shoulders and elbows and fastens with a concealed zip and press stud to the collar. This tunic can be screen matched to the one worn by the guard in the final image presented here.

The costume remains in generally good condition while exhibiting what appears to be black paint in several areas, the reason for this is unclear and it was possibly distressed as such for use in a subsequent unknown production.
