Rassilon (Richard Matthews) coronet - The Five Doctors
An original prop used in the production of the long running BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who.
This Coronet of Rassilon was used in the 1983 feature length serial The Five Doctors which marked the 20th anniversary of the show and saw Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee reprise their roles as The Doctor alongside Peter Davison with Richard Hurndall standing in for the deceased William Hartnell and previously filmed footage being used for appearances by Tom Baker who refused an invite to reprise his role.
The coronet is one of a number of artefacts created by Rassilon, an iconic figure in Time Lord history, which allows the wearer to dominate the will of others with this example worn on screen by Richard Matthews as Rassilon in the climactic scenes of the serial. The Coronet of Rassilon is constructed from fibreglass dressed with decorative metallic gold braiding and features a quantity of red gemstones of cast resin, the unique construction of the prop allows it to be matched to the one worn on screen by Matthews as Rassilon.
The prop measures approximately 11" x 9" and remains in excellent screen used and vintage condition, very fine.
An extremely significant and highly displayable principal character artefact from this classic science fiction series.
