Dalek Trooper (Roger Davenport) helmet - Resurrection of the Daleks
An original Dalek Trooper helmet used in the production of the long running BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who.
This helmet was worn on screen by Roger Davenport as a Dalek Trooper in the 1984 serial Resurrection of the Daleks starring Peter Davison as The Doctor. Constructed from fibreglass with integral eye stalk dressed with plastic hemispheres and visor these were designed to resemble the Dalek casing, finished in black the helmet features a helmet liner to the interior with affixed elasticated chin strap. Labeled to the interior 'ROGER' inscribed on period BBC plaster label.
This helmet was a prize in the 1984 BBC Design a Monster Competition and was presented to a Ms Karen Prescott as runner up in the 15 and over age group on January 3rd 1985. Accompanying the helmet are two letters from BBC exhibition and event organiser Julie Jones on BBC Enterprises headed paper signed in her hand. Further to this are the preliminary drawings for Karen's design in full colour spanning two A3 pages, a period clipping showing her with the prize which was published in her local newspaper and a copy of her final monster design. Obtained by The Prop Gallery directly from competition winner Ms Prescott.
Dalek Trooper helmets are one of the most heavily replicated Doctor Who props and these replicas have frequently been passed off as original props, this represents an incredible opportunity to obtain the genuine article with watertight provenance directly from the BBC.
The helmet remains in incredible condition with only very minor paint wear, all of the hemispheres are present and the helmet retains its original visor, other examples previously handled by The Prop Gallery have been lacking such details and this represents almost certainly the finest surviving example of an original screen used Dalek Trooper helmet with immaculate provenance.
An exciting and displayable artefact from this classic Dalek story.
