Control console set piece
An original console from the 1977 Jif Dessert Toppings advert which was inspired by Thunderbirds and was produced by creator Gerry Anderson. Many of the team who did the model effects work for Space: 1999 were involved in the production of this advert.
This control console is constructed from plywood in scale with the puppets and represents one of the main set pieces used in the advertisement, the prop is heavily detailed with various buttons, dials and switches with the outlines achieved in automotive detailing tape, a common trait of Anderson models. At some point in its life the console has been redressed with various additions made with tape, likely done for the time it spent in exhibitions to make it slightly more presentable. The console features various lights which are wired from the underside, amazingly these all remain fully functional when connected to a battery.
The piece measures approximately 41" wide, 18" deep and stands 12" high and remains in good condition with some of the original tape peeling in areas while lacking other minor detailings.
An imposing and impressive display piece from this memorable Anderson production.
