National Lampoon's European Vacation

An original costume used in the production of the 1985 comedy National Lampoon's European Vacation starring Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo.

This tailcoat was worn by Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold in the sequence where his wife Ellen dreams that they meet the Queen. The tailcoat was bespoke made for the production by noted theatrical costumiers Morris Angel & Son, constructed from heavyweight black wool with contrasting satin effect lapels the costume is lined to the interior and features the Morris Angel & Son label which is hand inscribed 'MR CHEVY CHASE, NOV 84' with a further partially illegible name, possibly 'BARRIE WEST', likely from reuse in a subsequent unknown production.

The tailcoat remains in excellent production used condition throughout with some minor staining to the shoulder which could be removed if professionally cleaned.

A rare example of principal character wardrobe from this well regarded and successful comedy franchise.
