Chessene (Jacqueline Pearce) costume - The Two Doctors
An original costume used in the production of the long running BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who.
From the 1985 serial The Two Doctors starring both Colin Baker and Patrick Troughton as The Doctor this is the original costume worn on screen by Jacqueline Pearce as Chessene. Visioned by designer Jan Wright and constructed by costumier Alexander Carey the two part costume consists of a full length pleated dress featuring an upper of metallic blue and grey with long sleeves and double cuffs. This is complemented by a metallic silver tabard adorned with a vine like pattern cut from the same material as the upper dress, to the lower half of the tabard is a complex design achieved with various materials to include foam, plastic tubing and faux jewels and stones. To the interior of the tabard is the original Alexander Carey makers label which is hand inscribed 'J. PIERCE' (SIC) and 'DR WHO'. It is believed that two dresses were made for the production and only one tabard given its extremely complex and unique design, this is further evidenced by the fact the tabard can by conclusively screen matched to every scene in which it appears.
The costume remains in excellent production used condition with some wear and loss of finish to the shoulders, collar and cuffs, lacking some minor detail from the lower part of the tabard, some ageing glue marks visible due to its vintage, otherwise fine.
An exceptional example of principal character wardrobe from a popular serial of this classic science fiction series.
