Close Encounters of the Third Kind

An original prop used in the production of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the 1977 science fiction classic directed by Steven Spielberg.

Licence plates such as this were custom made by the production for use on various vehicles during filming. Printed on thick card stock the plate features the designation '12257' with the state 'INDIANA' below printed in black on a bright yellow background. To the verso the piece features glue residue and surface tearing consistent with its removal from a vehicle following filming.

The licence plate measures approximately 12" x 6" and remains in good condition with some surface wear and bending and several partial punch holes.

A rare artefact used in the production of this critically acclaimed Academy Award winning blockbuster which will forever remain a classic of the science fiction genre.
