Brian Johnson Hawk concept art - War Games
In 1975 Gerry Anderson once again revolutionised model effects work with his ground breaking series Space: 1999, at the helm of the effects work was Brian Johnson who designed and shot many of the effects used. This is the original design drawing of the Hawk spaceship.
This original drawing was the birth of the now famous Hawk spaceship, drawn in 1974 by Brian Johnson it is accomplished in felt tip and is a rare insight into the development of the craft used in this classic series, the art is initialed B.J. 1974 and titled War Game ''Hawk''. It is from this drawing that Martin Bower drafted plans and built the studio models in three scales. Quite clearly influenced by the Eagle with a similar nosecone but ultimately a sleeker design the Hawk is possibly the second most famous craft of the entire series, second only to the Eagle Transporter.
Brian Johnson went on to win academy awards for his work on Alien and The Empire Strikes Back and is considered one of the finest visual effects designers of his generation, these pieces come directly from his personal collection.
A fascinating and incredibly rare example of original design artwork from this beloved series.
