Gangs of New York

An original costume used in the production of Gangs of New York, the 2002 epic directed by Martin Scorsese.

This costume was custom made by the production and worn by Liam Carney as a member of Bill the Butcher's (Daniel Day-Lewis) gang. This complete seven piece costume comprises of shirt, necktie, waistcoat, trousers of houndstooth check, shoes, top hat and a distinctive red frock coat, the hat features a label to the interior which is hand inscribed 'AMERICAN NATIVE, LIAM CARNEY' with the frock coat similarly labelled and also including eight scene numbers in which the costume was used.

The wardrobe remains in generally excellent condition with minimal soiling from use during the production.
