Apogee budget approval folder
Original paperwork used during the production of David Lynch's 1984 film adaptation of Dune, based on the novel by Frank Herbert.
This paperwork was created and utilised at Apogee Inc who were originally contracted to provide the visual effects for the picture, headed up by effects pioneer John Dykstra who had previously won an Academy Award for his work on Star Wars before forming his own visual effects company in the late 1970's. Ultimately Apogee did not provide the effects and pulled out of the project altogether.
This folder contains the budget approval forms for the miniature and visual effects to be provided by Apogee Inc which are contained within their original folder bearing a sticker which is type written 'DUNE, BUDGET APPROVAL FORMS'. The folder contains various approval forms relating to the miniature and optical effects and changes in budget totalling in excess of 50 pages, largely on Apogee headed paper with some sheets hand inscribed with a memo hand signed by Raffaella De Laurentiis stating that all future increases in budget are to be authorised by him and strongly suggests he is displeased with the constant budget additions being made by Apogee. The folder and contents remain in good vintage condition throughout, very fine.
This represents an incredibly rare and interesting insight in to the visual effects work on this box office flop which later achieved cult status with science fiction fans.
