Animatic storyboards x3 - Sam in Rover
A pair of original animatic storyboards used in the production of Moon, the acclaimed science fiction drama directed by Duncan Jones and starring Sam Rockwell.
During the production of Moon very few traditional storyboards were created due to time and budget constraints and so it was decided to simplify this process using animatics, a motion graphics sequence intended to provide a better idea of how the scene will look and feel, they are also useful for determining camera positioning and identifying any potential issues before filming. The job of producing these animatics fell to conceptual designer Gavin Rothery who produced a number of sequences, the frames were printed out and pinned to boards in the sound stage during production to give the crew a better understanding of the shots required.
These three animatic storyboards show Sam in the Rover and each feature a quantity of annotations hand inscribed in marker pen, these referring to camera set up and angles. Storyboards similar to this can clearly be seen pinned to the wall on The Making of Moon documentary featured on the DVD extras.
The storyboards are A4 in size and remain in excellent production used condition with one featuring some discolouration which looks to have been caused by heat from a bulb, otherwise fine.
A displayable example of original production material from this already cult science fiction masterpiece.
