Ambulance filming miniature

Sold

Description

An original ambulance filming miniature used in the production of the British science fiction television series UFO created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson.

This futuristic ambulance filming miniature was used in 'Identified', the first episode of the series in which it is used to transport the alien and again in 'Flight Path'. This incredibly detailed model miniature is constructed from mixed materials with the main body constructed from a combination of wood and heat formed acrylic. The model is built upon the signature suspension system used on most of the Anderson filming miniatures of the period that was devised by miniature effects legend Derek Meddings and incorporated foam under the axle allowing the model to bounce slightly resulting in very realistic movement on screen. The front, rear and top lights are all wired to light with this wiring complete and visible from the underside. Other features include rubber tyres as seen on a number of Anderson vehicles in addition to grills and even wipers to the front screen and door hinges on the non working rear doors, a testament to the build quality and detail of the model work used in Anderson productions.

The model miniature measures approximately 23" long and 9" wide making an impressive and imposing display piece. It remains in excellent condition for its age with a small hole to the acrylic roof section, small holes remain where the wing mirrors were once located and three of the four rear door hinge detailings are missing. The miniature also exhibits some minor paint wear and flaking with the foam suspension having hardened but is in generally excellent and very displayable condition.

The model represents an incredibly rare example of a complete filming miniature of which very few remain from these groundbreaking Anderson series still today famed for the quality of its miniature effects.
