Ape mask
An original mask used in the production of 2001: A Space Odyssey, the 1968 epic science fiction masterpiece directed by Stanley Kubrick.
This ape mask was custom made for the production by noted make-up effects designer Stuart Freeborn for the now iconic Dawn of Man sequence seen at the beginning of the movie. Constructed from foam latex the ape mask is finished in brown paint and has been mounted on a plastic face form ensuring it maintains its shape.
The mask measures approximately 8.5" x 6" x 6" with the display standing 15.5" high, it remains in very good vintage condition and stable condition, largely supple to the touch with some hardening to the extremities, overall an excellent example.
A highly displayable artefact from this Academy Award winning science fiction classic which remains one of the most influential pictures in the history of cinema.
