King Kong

An original premiere programme from the production of King Kong, the 1933 classic directed by Merian C. Cooper.

This programme was created for the west coast premiere of the movie during its original theatrical release which took place at the famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre on the evening of Friday, March 24, 1933. Designed by Keye Luke who had worked as a mural artist at Grauman's this booklet features a distinctive embossed cover with a chain over an Art Deco style image of the Empire State Building with the location and date of the release printed and the tagline 'THE PICTURE THAT STAGGERS THE IMAGINATION' to the side, an advertisement for The Hollywood Reporter is present to the rear cover. Tipped to the interior cover remains the paper programme page detailing the performance with front and rear interior covers of onionskin bearing the movie logo with production credits and the RKO Radio Pictures emblem. The interior comprises of 18 semi gloss pages which detail the making of the movie, the filmmakers and its stars with fantastic imagery to include various conceptual designs and the now iconic shot of Kong holding Ann Darrow (Fay Wray) behind the New York skyline.

The programme measures approximately 12.25" x 9.25" and remains in wonderful vintage condition with minimal spine wear and some light toning to the onionskin, corner wear from handling also very minimal its age considered, an overall fine example of this rarity.

An extremely rare artefact from the 1933 first release of this highly influential classic which remains one of the most significant pictures in the history of cinema.
