1:6 scale space helmet study maquette
An original miniature space helmet used during the production of Moon, the acclaimed 2009 science fiction drama directed by Duncan Jones and starring Sam Rockwell.
This miniature spacesuit helmet maquette was built in 1:6 scale by Bill Pearson working from an initial concept created by production designer Tony Noble. Firstly Bill sculpted a pattern in high density foam which was used to vacuum form this miniature helmet, it was then shown to director Duncan Jones for approval before creating the screen used helmets. Constructed in plastic this detailed miniature helmet clearly draws influence from those used on Ridley Scott's Alien with a large visor area and windows to either side of the helmet, finished in grey paint the helmet also features some details faintly sketched on in pencil to the rear. This helmet maquette was then used for reference by Chris Hayes who sculpted the master patterns from which only two screen used helmets were created.
Further to this the helmet was worn by the Sam Bell figure in the hero 1:6 scale rover miniature during filming. The final three images show the helmet in Pearson's workshop at Shepperton Studios during the production with the final image showing this very helmet being worn by the 1:6 scale Sam Bell while testing the remote control feature on the hero large scale rover miniature.
The miniature helmet measures approximately 2.25" and remains in excellent production used condition with just a minor crack to the top window area.
Presented here directly from the collection of Moon model unit supervisor Bill Pearson, The Prop Gallery COA supplied with the item will also be signed by Bill and accompanied by a high quality 7" x 5" photographic print of him with the item.
An excellent display piece, this helmet represents an important part of the production process on this already cult science fiction masterpiece.
