Description

An original costume used in the production of Dark Passage, the 1947 film noir starring real life couple Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.

This blue pinstripe suit is one of two worn on screen by Hollywood legend and American icon Humphrey Bogart as Vincent Parry throughout the movie. The costume was bespoke made for Bogart by Warner Bros costume department for the movie, constructed from blue pinstripe wool the jacket features a period Warner Bros label stitched to the interior pocket lining which is hand inscribed with Bogart's name, '47' for the date and '#2' indicating that this was change two. The trousers feature a similarly hand inscribed Warner label to the waistband which also features some measurements, further to this both parts of the costume feature Warner Bros ink stamps to the interior. Two suits which are identical in style are worn on screen by Bogart for the vast majority of the film, these can be easily distinguished by the manner in which the pinstripe lines up on the lapel meaning that this particular suit can be screen matched to the one worn by Humphrey Bogart in multiple scenes of the picture.

The garment remains in generally exceptional condition its age and use considered with only a few very minor moth holes. This represents an incredibly rare example of an original costume worn on screen by this iconic actor who is widely regarded to be among the finest of all time. Humphrey Bogart was once ranked as the greatest male star in the history of American cinema by the American Film Institute and this represents a museum quality costume artefact from this well received noir classic.
