UNIT lapel badge
An original badge used in the production of the long running BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who.
This is an original lapel badge as worn by members of the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce (UNIT), the military organisation headed by Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart (Nicholas Courtney) which feature heavily in the series, largely throughout the Jon Pertwee era. Badges such as this can be seen worn by prominent members of UNIT, notably Captain Mike Yates (Richard Franklin) and Sergeant Benton (John Levene), in various serials of the Pertwee era. These include The Three Doctors, The Green Death, Invasion of the Dinosaurs and Planet of the Spiders, they can also be seen in the opening scenes of the 1974 Tom Baker serial Robot.
The badge is custom made from metal with an affixed pin to the rear and features a raised centre section which has been detailed with paint and the acronym U.N.I.T hand painted below. The lapel badge measures approximately 1" in diameter and remains in excellent production used vintage condition with some minor paint wear, overall fine.
This represents a recognisable and incredibly rare example of a UNIT related artefact from the golden era of this classic science fiction series.
