Krynoid pod - The Seeds of Doom
An original prop used in the production of the long running BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who.
This is an original Krynoid pod used in the production of the 1976 serial The Seeds of Doom starring Tom Baker as The Doctor. This can be seen on screen at the beginning of episode 1 as Charles Winlett (John Gleeson) and Derek Moberley (Michael McStay) discover it in the frost before it is examined by botanist John Stevenson (Hubert Rees). The pod was created by a BBC Visual Effects team led by Richard Conway and is constructed from dark green fibreglass resin with a hole to the underside and evidence of glue residue where it was likely attached to the tray, the pod also features minor traces of salt to the crevasses having been dressed during the production in order to imitate snow.
The pod has a diameter of approximately 4.5" and stands 4" tall, it remains in near perfect original screen used condition.
A highly displayable and desirable artefact which represents a central plot device of this classic Doctor Who serial.
