Battle of Carthage shield
An original prop used in the production of Gladiator, the 2000 historical epic starring Russell Crowe under the direction of Ridley Scott.
Shields such as this can be seen used in the scenes where Maximus (Russell Crowe) leads the gladiators to an unlikely victory in a recreation of the Battle of Carthage at the Colosseum. The shied is constructed from curved hardboard which has been covered in material and features brass trims to the edges with a central boss of thick plastic and wooden handle to the rear. The front of the shield features a hand painted design and has two holes which once accommodated arrows fired during the battle, the final screen capture presented here shows a shield with arrow placement consistent with this example and it is extremely likely that it is this very shield.
The shield stands an impressive 40" high and measures 27" wide, it remains in excellent production used condition exhibiting some surface and edge wear with paint wear to the central boss, overall fine.
A highly displayable artefact from this multi Academy Award winning masterpiece and modern day classic.
Please note that due to its large size this lot requires special shipping arrangements, we therefore recommend that any shipping queries, particularly those of an international nature, are discussed before purchasing.
